Meet the Teachers
At just 2 years old, Shelley started Ballet and Tap dancing with her dance teaching mum Marye Simmons of MaSh Dance. She then started Ballroom, Latin American, Old Time & Freestyle at the age of 7.
As she got older Shelley would help out in classes but after taking her A-Levels she decided not to go to university but to follow in her mums footsteps and study to become a dance teacher instead. A Year later Shelley had started her own dance classes and has been doing it ever since.
Shelley teaches dance in Corby, Kettering & Islip, as well as local primary schools & nurseries.
Marye Simmons has been dancing all her life, and has been teaching for the last 50 years.
She started with Ballet & Tap and then progressed to Ballroom, Latin American & Old Time.
She has been an examiner and adjudicator with the NATD for the last 15 years both in England & abroad.
Marye is just as enthusiastic about dance as she always has been!
Like the majority of all 80’s kids, Lisa Tartaglia started dancing Ballet and Tap at the age of 4 with Marye Simmons and Jane Williams. At the age of 13, she became a member of the Kettering District and Youth Theatre Group, who produced panto’s at the McKinley Theatre in Kettering. Most of her time with them was spent in chorus, however, she did audition and secure the part of the witch in Sleeping Beauty… boooooooo!
After leaving the theatre group at the age of 18 and having finished school, Lisa then concentrated on full time employment until she returned to dancing with Marye Simmons, 8 years later.
Lisa holds Licentiate certificates in Ballroom and Latin American and Associate certificates in Street and Freestyle.
Donna started dancing Ballet & Tap with Marye Simmons at the age of 8. By 11 she was adding Ballroom, Latin American & Disco to her repertoire. Donna took part in dancing competitions and worked hard to secure a place in the school’s disco team.
Her love of performing led her to the local Amateur Dramatic Societies where she has appeared in many shows across the county over a 30 year period. Shows including; Cabaret, Guys & Dolls, Barnum, Pippin, Little Shop of Horrors, Anything Goes, Singin’ in The Rain, Calamity Jane, Pantomimes and Variety shows. Donna has also choreographed shows for a number of amateur groups.
Re-joining the dance school in 2011,Donna went on to take her Professional Examinations in Ballroom & Latin American in 2011. She would like to thank MaSh Dance Studio, especially Shelley, for helping her to realise her dream and for giving her the opportunity to pass on her love of dancing to others.
As a child Liz was taught Ballroom and Latin when she was just 9 years old by Sharon Potter at the Village Hall in Corby Old Village where she grew up.
Liz returned to dancing, this time with her own children and was taught by Marye Simmons of MaSh Dance.
4 years ago the opportunity to train for her professional exams arose, and she is now a qualified Associate Ballroom and Latin teacher with the NATD.
Liz says “working with and being part of MaSh Dance is very enjoyable”.
